Puzzle-solving (IMAGE) University of Konstanz Caption Automated puzzle boxes, which gave a food reward if solved, were used to test if groups could change a socially learned feeding tradition. When a bird solved the puzzle, the type of solution, time of solution and bird identity were recorded. Individual identities of birds were obtained using an antenna in the perch which read transponders attached to the birds' legs, as well as a bar code attached to a leg harness.
