Using synthetic biotechnology tools, a team at the Technical University of Munich transfered the sections of the tobacco plant genome responsible for the formation of cembratrienol molecules to coli bacteria. Afterwards they produced the insect repellent in this bio-reactor at the TUM Center for Industrial Biotechnology in Garching.
