Heparin Changed Eyespots on Moth Wings in Distinct Ways (IMAGE)
Caption
The blood thinner heparin is similar to the chemicals that drive moths' wing pattern development. Heparin treatment caused the black disc in io moths' eyespots to dramatically expand in all directions, while the salt-and-pepper patterning in polyphemus moths' eyespots spread in a single direction.
