Ehrlichiosis Incidence in 2008 (IMAGE) Washington University in St. Louis Caption This is the US Center for Disease Control's most recent map for reported cases of Ehrlichiosis chaffeensis, which is the most common of the emerging diseases carried by the lonestar tick (Amblyomma americanum). Oklahoma, Missouri and Arkansas account for 35 percent of all reported E. chaffeensis infections. The incidence of ehrlichiosis has gone steadily up since the disease became reportable in 2000 but thankfully the case fatality rate has declined.
