Specific distribution of amyloplasts filled with starch granules (black dots) in the root of the fern C. richardii (left) and the seed and flowering plant A. thaliana (right). In the fern, the amyloplasts are present both above and within the root tip, while in the gymnosperm and other seed plants they completely sediment to gather at the very bottom of the root tip.
