IceCube Lab (IMAGE) University of Copenhagen - Niels Bohr Institute Caption Morten Medici, Ph.D.-student at the Niels Bohr Institute is seen in front of the IceCube Lab at the South Pole, where the temperature can reach minus 70 degree Celcius, and some of the harshest winds blows. The IceCube Neutrino Observatory consists of 5,160 light sensors, frozen in the dark clear ice two kilometers beneath the surface. Here they detect the faint light from the ghost-like neutrinos. The signals from all the sensors are collected in the IceCube Lab, where the data is processed and transmitted via satellite to researches all over the world.
