The Cryo-Adsorption Pump in the LHD Vacuum Vessel

(a) CAD image of the LHD vacuum vessel. The cryo-adsorption pumps (red color) are installed inside the vacuum vessel and in the grooves between the superconducting coil vessel. (b) CAD image of the cryo-adsorption pump. The cryo-adsorption pump is composed by six straight line-type pump units that have riceball-type cross-sections, and the full shape resembles a "twisted banana." (c) A cross-section image of the cryo-adsorption pump. The cryo-adsorption pump is composed of stainless steel water cooling boards, and oxygen-free copper louver-style liquid nitrogen cooling shields, as well as adsorption panels that have been cooled by gas helium at a temperature below 20 Kelvin.
