Permian Map (IMAGE) Field Museum Caption This map of Pangea shows the distribution of life during the late Permian period. Many species exclusively thrived near the equator, including early amphibian tetrapods and early crocodiles and dinosaurs, while animals like dicynodonts (early mammal-relatives) were in greater abundance farther north and south.
