This special NOAA "Making Waves" podcast for members of the media provides additional background on two of the six presentations that are part of the upcoming NOAA-sponsored panel,"Decoding the Secret Pathologies of Dolphins: Significance for Human and Ocean Health," Fri., Feb. 19, 2010, at the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) 2010 annual conference. First interviewee is NOAA's Dr. Lori Schwacke, who reports that coastal Georgia dolphins contain the highest levels of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) ever recorded in the marine wildlife. Also featured is NOAA's Dr. John Ramsdell, who reports that exposure of laboratory animals to toxin can lead to a permanent state of epileptic disease.
