This image shows mitochondrial gene loss over time. The probability that a given gene is lost at a given time ordering in the process of mitochondrial gene loss. The flat surface in the main plot and black contour in the inset give the probability (1/L) associated with a null model in which all genes are equally likely to be lost at all times. Blue corresponds to a probability above that expected from this null model; red corresponds to a probability below this null model. Genes are ordered by mean inferred loss time.
