Dead beetle infected with pathogenic fungus (IMAGE)

While collecting gallery samples in the field, Rita de Cassia Pessotti found a bessbug beetle that appeared to have died of a fungal infection. Pessotti brought the dead beetle back to the lab, and use samples of the fungus to test how well actinomycete bacteria can protect frass against infection.
