Mating Calls of the Gulf Corvina (AUDIO) University of Texas at Austin Your browser does not support the audio element. Caption It might sound like white noise, but it's the sound of thousands to millions of fish grunting. Each spring millions of Gulf corvina migrate to the northern tip of the Gulf of California and the males begin to call to attract mates. The sounds have been recorded as high as 192 decibels, loud enough to rupture your eardrums if it were on land.
