Chrononutrition (IMAGE) American Society for Nutrition Caption The central clock located in the suprachiasmatic nuclei (SCN) of the anterior hypothalamus is dominantly entrained by the light/dark cycle whereas the peripheral clocks in peripheral tissues (liver, kidney, heart, and endocrine tissues) are entrained by external stimuli such as chrononutrition. Both melatonin and sleep contribute to the synchronization of circadian system and are important markers of the circadian rhythm.
