Kentrophoros sp., gesammelt in Elba, Italien. Dieser Ciliat, der aus einer einzigen riesige (> 1 mm) eukaryotischen Zelle besteht, trägt mehrere Millionen bakterielle Symbionten mit sich herum und erntet sie als Nahrung. Die Hälfte der in diesem Bild sichtbaren Biomasse besteht aus Bakterien.
