Lightning Imaging Sensor (IMAGE) NASA/Goddard Space Flight Center Caption A team from NASA and the University of Alabama in Huntsville took the flight backup of the Lightning Imaging Sensor (LIS) into the lab in August 2014 to calibrate the instrument. From its perch on the International Space Station, the LIS will record the time, energy output and location of lightning events around the world during the day and night.
