Albert Ellis, Ph.D., (1913–2007) practiced psychotherapy, marriage and family counseling, and sex therapy for over 60 years. Born in Pittsburgh and raised in New York City, he was founder and president of the Albert Ellis Institute. He created Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy, the first of the now-popular cognitive therapies. Consistently ranked among the most influential psychologists, he was the author of more than seventy-five books, including many popular bestsellers.
