世界各地の嚢胞性線維症センターを対象にした研究が病原性の強い細菌の伝播に注目

最近出現したMycobacterium abscessusという細菌は、嚢胞性線維症（CF）などの肺疾患をもつ人にとって世界的に深刻な脅威となっている。これまで患者は環境中の水や土壌から感染し、患者間では伝染しないと考えられていた。今回、ヨーロッパ、米国、オーストラリアにある複数の嚢胞性線維症センターを受診した人から得た1000以上の分離株について、全ゲノムの配列を決定した結果、CF患者の大部分が病院内での空気感染などによって、伝染性M. abscessusのクローンに感染していることが実証された。
