強風が吹くMartha’s Vineyardの沿岸観測所（MVCO）における回転作業をダイバー目線で見たところ。本研究の共著者であるRob Olsonがフロートを回収しようとしている。米国マサチューセッツ州沿岸における年間を通したフィールド観測によって、本研究の為に必要とされた複数年分のほぼ連続的な時系列データの取得が実現した。MVCOにおけるFlowCytbot（FCB）装置の運転を自動化することで、従来の船を使ったサンプリング観測では危険とされた過酷な条件下でのデータ収集が可能になった。（左：船の操縦者、Matt Gould）
