IL-31 as Central Mediator of Itch (IMAGE)
Caption
IL-31 as central mediator of itch. Allergens penetrating the skin will trigger mast cells and type II T helper cells. Both cell types will then secrete IL-31, stimulating peripheral sensory nerves, finally signalling itch to the brain. Blocking IL-31 by antibodies will block the itching.
