New research shows trace amounts of water trapped in ancient volcanic deposits on the moon. The finding bolsters the idea that the moon's mantle is surprisingly water-rich. Colored areas indicate elevated water content compared with surrounding terrains. Yellows and reds indicate the richest water content.
