'Flamingo' Design Metaklett Fastener (VIDEO) Technical University of Munich (TUM) This video is under embargo. Please login to access this video. Caption This is the so-called Flamingo design for spring-steel hook and loop fasteners, developed by researchers at the Technische Universitaet Muenchen. Hook elements deform elastically under light pressure to glide into openings in a perforated tape, like the plastic buckles on backpack straps. Once inserted, they return to their original form and resist back pull like an expanding rivet.
