This is a map showing the extent of the Deccan Traps volcanic region in India, which dates from 64-67 million years ago. The rectangle shows the region near Mumbai from which the Berkeley team obtained lava samples used in the new precision dating of the eruptions around the time of the asteroid or comet impact 66 million years ago.
