Embedded in a protecting polymer, hydrogenases can catalyze the conversion of hydrogen in fuel cells and water electrolysis. Side chains of the polymer enable the electron transfer. Dawit T. Filmon, scientist with Prof. Nicolas Plumere, professorship for bioelectrochemistry at the TUM Campus Straubing for Biotechnology and Sustainability, holds a starting material for these side chains in his hands.
