Caption Video rendering from fluorescent microscopic images of a trunk-like-structure in which the cytoskeleton (red) and cell nuclei (cyan) are stained with fluorescent proteins. The structure is generated with an advanced cell culture technique and is highly similar to the trunk of a mouse embryo, with a neural tube and bilateral somites (as indicated). The gray projection shows the assembly of the extracellular matrix protein Fibronectin at the tissue-matrix interface, an important trigger for somite and neural tube formation.
