Fluorescent microscopic image (IMAGE) Max-Planck-Gesellschaft Caption Fluorescent microscopic image of a Trunk-Like-Structure. The structure is generated with an advanced cell culture technique and is highly similar to the trunk of a mouse embryo. It has been grown from mouse embryonic stem cells and has features typical for early development of a vertebrate: segmentation of the somitic tissue that eventually produces bone, muscle and cartilage (red) and the formation of a neural tube that ultimately forms the spinal cord (cyan).
