Topological change of viscous fingering pattern (IMAGE)
Caption
(top) Viscous fingering in Hele-Shaw cell which is a thin gap between two parallel plates. (bottom) Schematics of the fully miscible, immiscible and partially miscible interface and viscous fingering experimental results in each systems. Classical viscous fingering pattern for the fully miscible and immiscible systems is observed. Surprisingly, in the partially miscible systems, we observe a multiple droplet formation pattern: this is a new topological change of viscous fingering pattern.
