Dr. Keeri Rathore looks at cotton plants growing in the lab where they were bred to remove toxic gossypol from the seed only, leaving it intact throughout the rest of the plant to protect against insects and disease. Rathore, a plant biotechnologist for the Texas Agricultural Experiment Station, led a team of researchers whose findings are in the November 20 online Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
