These are ccanning electron micrographs of cells lacking the scaffolding protein ANKS4B. ANKS4B plays a critical role in promoting adhesion between adjacent microvilli. Loss of intermicrovillar adhesion results in dishevelled brush borders, characterized by loosely packed microvilli of variable length.
