Deep Soil Warming Experiment at the University of California, Blodgett Forest Research Station (IMAGE)
Caption
One of the approved FICUS JGI-EMSL FY20 proposals is led by Eoin Brodie of Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Berkeley Lab). It involves a deep soil warming experiment at the University of California, Blodgett Forest Research Station, located in Georgetown, Calif., in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains. Figure shows paired control (ambient temperature) and warmed (ambient +4oC) plots. Soil warming is achieved through heating cables to a depth of 1m below surface and has been ongoing for approximately five years. Infrastructure for measurement of temperature, moisture, gas fluxes, and dissolved constituents are shown.
