COPD (VIDEO)
Caption
One in four people have unusual lung structures that may raise their risk of developing chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, better known as COPD. This discovery comes from scientists at the Research Institute of the MUHC and their colleagues at Columbia University Medical Center (CUMC). Together they discovered that the internal anatomy of our lungs is surprisingly variable. Knowing that patients could have an extra or a missing airway branch may help clinicians and researchers personalize treatments in the future. Featured in this video: Dr. Benjamin Smith (the study's first author) with Dr. Carolyn Baglole (co-author) and post-doctoral fellow Dr. Hussein Traboulsi (co-author) from the RI-MUHC/McGill University.
