This is a coral community undergoing major bleaching on the northern Great Barrier Reef. In 2016, the Great Barrier Reef has undergone the third and most severe mass coral bleaching event. Researchers have discovered genetic markers in a reef-building coral that can provide information on how well a colony can tolerate such stress.
