A Sunday on La Grande Jatte (IMAGE)
Caption
"A Sunday on La Grande Jatte" (1884-1886). Georges-Pierre Seurat pioneered the pointillist painting technique, which has served as inspiration for neuroscientists using single-cell technologies as it illustrates how complexity can arise from a collection of small spots or cells. Here, the mothers, fathers, and children in the picture represent the maternal and paternal influence on cortex development. The image is composed mainly of green and red spots, which represent MADM labelled cells that were used in the analysis and reflects the growth disadvantage of astrocytes observed in this study (more green than red spots).
