Coral Reefs in the Cook Islands (IMAGE)
Caption
Coral reefs face many threats, including pollution, climate change, overfishing, storm damage, and outbreaks of crown-of-thorns starfish. In order to see how these threats impacted reefs, scientists on the Global Reef Expedition conducted over 400 coral and reef fish surveys and created over 406 square kilometers of detailed seafloor habitat maps in the Cook Islands.
