When kidney cancer is diagnosed early -- before it spreads -- 80 percent of patients survive. But early diagnosis is a challenge. Now, Washington University School of Medicine researchers Evan D. Kharasch, M.D., Ph.D., (left) and Jeremiah J. Morrissey, Ph.D., have developed a noninvasive method to screen for kidney cancer by measuring the presence of proteins in the urine.
