Pupfish (IMAGE)
Caption
This cyprinodon brontotheroides is endemic to San Salvador Island in the Bahamas' hypersaline lakes. This species is a specialized durophage, i.e., a predator of hard-shelled invertebrates, particularly gastropods and ostracods. Physical adaptations to this behavour include modified jaw morphology allowing it to close its mouth with greater force and crush shells.
