Experimental System

Caption

The experimental system consists of three swings connected by springs and holding up to 15 metronomes each. Adjacent metronomes and swings transfer momentum to one another, and adjacent swings transfer momentum through the springs. With the right metronome frequency and spring strength, complex global behavior such as the chimera state can emerge.
