Cachexia brain regions (IMAGE)
Caption
The neuro-immune circuit Janowitz and Kepecs identified involves three key brain regions: the area postrema (ArP), which triggers nausea and vomiting; the parabrachial nucleus (PBN), which plays a role in appetite regulation; and the substantia nigra pars reticulata (SNpr), which can lower natural dopamine levels. Here, PBN neurons receive input from the ArP (red) and send projections to the SNpr (blue).
