Cone mosaic pattern in adult zebrafish (IMAGE)
Caption
(Left panels) Cone mosaic pattern in adult zebrafish showing a lattice-like regular arrangement of four cone cell types. (Right panels) Cone mosaic pattern in fish lacking the Dscamb gene on either or both of homologous chromosomes. Dscamb has been identified as the molecule that regulates red cone cell arrangement. Loss of Dscamb causes red cone clustering, leading to disruption of the regular cone mosaic pattern.
