combining the stress field distribution of the Qilian Block and historical GPS data provided a more comprehensive understanding of the evolutionary process and seismogenic mechanism of the M 6.2 Jishishan earthquake. Under the northeastward compressive stress from the Qinghai‒Tibet Plateau, WNW-striking faults must exhibit left-lateral strike-slip thrust characteristics, whereas NNW-striking faults exhibit mostly dextral strike-slip thrust characteristics. Owing to the multidirectional compressive stress, the activities on both sides of the Lajishan Fault during this earthquake jointly contributed to the wedge-shaped uplift of Lajishan, resulting in sizable disasters and landslides caused by this earthquake.
