Image 5 - Water tank experiment with ring structure and ping pong ball (IMAGE)
Caption
The researchers co-led by Nanyang Technological University, Singapore were able to get a ping pong ball floating in a water tank to spin about its centre and move along a fixed circular path by using waves they generated with a ring-shaped plastic structure. The complex wave patterns that caused the ball to move in this way are the patterns seen in Image 4.
