How big are CubeSats? (IMAGE)
Caption
CubeSats are small satellites researchers can use to test ideas and technologies in real spaceflight scenarios at a much lower cost than conventional satellites. They also create more opportunities for students to get hands-on experience working on space missions. The STARI mission led by the University of Michigan will launch two CubeSats that will be twice the size of the taller satellite shown here (each STARI satellite will be like two of those tall satellites arranged side-by-side).
