Artist impression of Gaia-4b (IMAGE)
Caption
Caption: Gaia-4b is a planet orbiting the star called Gaia-4, around 244 light-years away. Gaia-4b is about twelve times more massive than Jupiter. With an orbital period of 570 days, it is a relatively cold gas giant planet. This artist impression visualises a portion of the orbital motion as determined by Gaia’s astrometric data. The star and planet are not to scale.
[Image description: This image shows an orange star, that appears like a glowing clementine, in the middle of a dark starry sky. The star has black spots on its surface, and has red flares around it. Above of the star, a small round object is portrayed in orange-yellow. The object has a few stripes. Coming from the object’s backside is a half elliptical red beam, making it seem like the object is in motion around the star.]
