Caltech researchers have developed a a planning and decision-making control system that helps freely moving robots determine the best movements to make as they navigate the real world. Called SETS (for Spectral Expansion Tree Search), the algorithm has been successfully deployed in three completely different experimental settings with different robotic systems—a drone, a tracked ground vehicle, and robots that mimic spacecraft.
