Bottom currents measured with moorings show how even small-scale topography strongly steers and funnels flows near the seafloor (only 8 out of 34 mooring locations are shown in the figure). Moreover, ocean currents are highly variable at different time-scales due to several processes such as tides or the passage of eddies, as shown by the snapshot of ocean currents at 500-meter water depth obtained from the GLORYS reanalysis.
