A picture of one of the crops that the research center is investigating in the search for climate genes. The plant is called Brachypodium and is typically used as a sort of test plant – kind of like mice in the pharmaceutical industry. Brachypodium shares a lot of genes with many of the crops we use in farming. At the same time its genome is much smaller making it much cheaper to search for useful mutations.
