Lateral spread liquefaction caused this damage to Vine Road outside of Wasilla, Alaska, during a 7.0 earthquake that struck Anchorage, Alaska, in 2018. The phenomenon can occur when intense shaking during an earthquake causes solid ground to temporarily lose stability.
