New Imaging Method Illuminates Oxygen's Journey in the Brain

Luminescent protein, substrate, and oxygen all combine to create chemical chain reaction to produce light.  Images shows the cortex of a mouse recorded over several minutes as the oxygen concentration in the breathed air fluctuated between 20, 30, and 40 percent.
