Spread of whooping cough (IMAGE)
Caption
Despite widespread vaccination against whooping cough, the Bordetella bacteria continues to spread and infect vulnerable populations. A newly discovered Bordetella glycan, named b-Cool, was found to have a key role in nasal colonization. Developing new drugs or vaccines that halt b-Cool production or function may offer new ways to combat the disease.
