Adolescents who fell into the “discrepant” category raised the most concern. In the past, young people who hadn’t clearly or consistently shown symptoms of mental health problems had sometimes been overlooked, as discrepancies between informants’ experiences lead to those problems being underestimated. However, the researchers highlight that monitoring for such discrepancies is very important to help identify adolescents at high risk.
