Underwater life in Lake Tisza (VIDEO) Hun-Ren Ökológiai Kutatóközpont This video is under embargo. Please login to access this video. Caption Lake Tisza (Kisköre Reservoir) is the second largest standing water in Hungary and in the Carpathian Basin. As part of both national protection and the UNESCO World Heritage Convention, the conservation of bird habitats and nesting sites is a priority here. In addition to its high nature conservation value, Lake Tisza also provides other ecosystem services as it is an important recreational centre for anglers, swimmers, canoers, kayakers, etc. In summer, a dense and usually diverse submerged plant community develops in Lake Tisza hosting inter alia benthic and metaphytic algae, macroinvertebrates and fishes. These plants provide hiding and resting places and even a food source for animals while benthic algae use them as substrates. Credit The video was made by Eduárd Csépes.
